Chevy Key Fob Programming: A Step-by-Step Guide

Have your Chevy key fob on your hand ready. Here are the steps on how to program a Chevy key fob:

  1. Manually unlock your car door with your Chevy key.
  2. Make sure all car doors are fully shut. Then, insert the key into the ignition, but don’t start the car.
  3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door, and then turn your key to the “On” position. The interior lights and radio will come on, but the engine should not be ignited.
  4. Turn the key back to the “Off” position, and then turn it to “On” and right back to “Off” once again in quick succession. (On – Off – On – Off)
  5. Release the unlock button.
  6. Upon releasing the unlock button, you should hear the door locks engage and disengage, notifying you that the programming sequence can begin.
  7. On your Chevy key fob, press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons at the same time until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again, indicating that you have successfully programmed your key fob.
  8. Re-insert the newly programmed key into the ignition in the “On” position to end the programming sequence.
