How Much Can a Traverse Tow?

While the 2022 Chevy Traverse towing capacity maxes out at 5,000 pounds, it will vary anywhere between 1,500 to 5,000 pounds. So if you’re wondering how much can a Traverse tow, you will need to understand that the optional trailering package makes all the difference. Without it, this Chevy SUV can only tow up to 1,500 pounds regardless of if you have the front- or all-wheel drive. However, if you have the trailering package, you can enjoy the full Chevrolet Traverse towing power!

Behind the Chevrolet Traverse Towing Power

Available in 6 trim levels, the 2022 lineup comes equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine that will produce 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque on your Spokane Valley drives. Paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, you will have smooth-sailing shifts on the road as well! Plus, there are several features to make it easy for you to manifest all of how much can a Traverse tow:

  • Available Trailering Package: This will add a hitch to the back of the Traverse, allowing you to hook up a trailer. Additionally, it includes a heavy-duty cooling system, allowing your engine to work harder without overheating.
  • Tow/Haul Mode: The Driver Mode Control dial includes a Tow/Haul mode that automatically adjusts the transmission shift points, so you can tow easily near the Post Falls area. During acceleration, the transmission will stay in a lower gear for longer to deliver more torque. As you travel downhill, the transmission will downshift to make it easier to retain your speed without heavily applying the brakes.
  • Trailer Sway Control: Trailer Sway Control is included as part of the Stabilitrak® Electronic Stability Control System. During towing, this system senses when your trailer begins to sway and can course-correct by applying the brakes.
